Impossible, you say? Well, I was watching Channel 13's fund raiser. Listening to some fabulous Cuban music (Willie Chirino -- http://www.willychirino.com/v2/). I think he was doing the Pa'lante music. When suddenly, I'm rudely interrupted by this little, bald headed guy, yapping and yapping. I was so annoyed. He's talking about how you can improve your brain. He has a formula for all the different lobes in your brain, and is talking about his different prescriptions for each lobe. Overall, the constant prescriptions for all the lobes are: fish oil, exercise (like ballroom dancing, or table tennis), sleep (HA!!!), life learning....blah, blah, blah. He also describes some of the characteristics of imbalance in the different lobes. I'm really beginning to groove on this now (I'm not so annoyed any longer at being interrupted from Chirino), as I see that almost all my lobes are in desperate need of balance. He's a psychiatrist and he wrote a book on what he's talking about (Change Your Brain, Change Your Life). If you donate $160 (I think that's what it was, although there were several options of CDs, as well), you will get the book. Well, I like Channel 13, but I don't want to pay $160 for the book. I go to work the next day, check out Barnes & Noble. It's there for $15.99!!! I call them and ask if they will hold it for me. They tell me not to worry, they have plenty on the shelves. That evening, I was going to a concert of a friend. I only had an available window of 30 minutes to peruse the shelves of Barnes & Noble (and that's with rushing out of work on time and hoping the subways run on schedule). I could go the next day, couldn't I (they said they had plenty)? But, I'm convinced that the WORLD is going to be running out to buy this book. Needless to say, I MUST get it that very day. I run like an absolute maniac to the book store, and after asking at the Info window what section it will be in, run up the escalator, slaloming around the customers standing on the escalator. I run to the section and look on the shelves. It's not there!!! I hysterically go to one of those little desks that they have there, and ask. God forbid they're sold out!!! She looks at me oddly and says "There are a bunch of them on that table over there." I run to the table, but don't see them. I ask for her help again, while telling her "I don't see them." She comes over to the table (tsking) and points them out to me. THERE ARE ONLY TWO BOOKS THERE!!!! I grab them both to my chest desperately, then walk around the table. There on the table, seductively enticing me, is another book -- Keep Your Brain Alive (with neurobic exercises). I think I need this too!!! I grab a bunch of those too. But, I don't have nearly enough copies. I'm going to make Christmas presents of these. [Like everyone will love the same things I do, right??] There are only a couple in my family, and possibly a smattering of friends, who would like this stuff. I buy them and head for my concert. All done in the small window I had. Needless to say, I required another visit to B&N and bought another four sets (got them gift wrapped), making it a total of six sets. I don't know why, but the recipients of these books didn't seem as deliriously happy to receive them as I.
Tune in for an upcoming OCD post about neurobic exercises.
