So sorry, my friends. I've not been entertaining you. My creative juices have been thwarted because I'm in a Word 2007 pilot program at work. I was invited (probably because I'm always complaining about the iniefficiency of certain functions). So, it appears that I am one of six in the entire firm of hundreds. Of course, today, my third day after conversion, I've been finding many, many glitches. So, I e-mail the techs immediately and continuously to let them know -- THIS SUCKS BIG TIME!!! I suggested that perhaps I could wait and collect my troubleshooting complaints and send them at one time. They breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Yes, that would be wonderful!" Of course, ideally, that would be nice. But, I find that ever since I attended my miniscule two hours of training, got back to my office to find my computer ripped out from its moorings and replaced with another (all the settings changed, of course, and all the contents of my hard drive GONE; my beloved WordPerfect rudely removed), I have been incredibly busy with a multitude of court papers. And, today in particular, poltergeist was in full gear. So, I believe that the task force would love to throw me off the pilot team, but perhaps, they dare not. I will try to bring up as many functions that SUCK (which is not hard -- there are plenty of them). Now, let's hope that the Super Tech Gurus do not try to turn this around and say that I am the incompetent. Only time will tell.
I even offered to pay $250 a year for the return of my baby WordPerfect. They did not listen. I have a multitude of personal and work-related documents in WordPerfect that I definitely cannot access, although the techs tell me I can, but logging remotely. Tried that today. NO GOOD!!! I made sure to print and paste into an e-mail the very clear message that said WORDPERFECT IS NOT AVAILABLE THROUGH THIS APPLICATION!!!! Well, tomorrow, I have an offer to give them. Let's hope they can't refuse it.
I must put this aside and realize where my priorities lay.
Whew! I am very, very tired. Actually, I just had dinner at my community bar (all very unhealty comfort food). I found out (upon my departure) that tonight is game night. What does that mean? The manager was setting up all sorts of musical instrument gadgets for a game where you play the instruments. Oooooooh!!!! That sounds right up my alley. Play instruments that you have no clue how to play. If I don't konk out soon, perhaps I will return to see what it's all about.
Later.

You forgot to label this "drivel."
ReplyDeleteLove!!!!
Ah, yes!! I was a bit tired and konked out for a bit. It's been taken care of. Is that better, and a more accurate label?
ReplyDeleteDrivel, NOT. This is Tragic! You've lost all your personal and special and irreplaceable documents n' letters n' such! I'd be threatening going "postal" or whatever the big-office equival is... Oh, I feel for you, Conchi, as had very similar experience at my last workplace...
ReplyDeleteWell, I added a label to my post and named it whining, which seemed appropriate. I've been having an e-mail war with the training manager (even offered to pay $250 a year myself annually in order to keep WordPerfect. No deal. but I think I have to put my war to rest (my employer, as lovely as he is, is not going to support me). Especially since people have been getting fired left and right for different reasons. I have found another way for my WordPerfect documents (which, at this point, I can even access or convert to Word). My neighbor (two desks over) still has WordPerfect. I can access my WP documents from there and convert them. My expectations have been lowered significantly. Now I don't care any longer about functionality. All I want is access to the text. THEY JUST TRY TO BEAT YOU DOWN!!! And, I'm doing them a favor. I just don't get it. One would think they'd want to make me happy. They offered downgrading me back to where I was and take me off the pilot (I'm too much trouble to them). I told them, "no way, now that I've lost everything on my desktop will I go backwards. Then it would all have been for naught." They didn't get that, of course. Or, they said they didn't get it. Well, off to work now. Cheers!!
ReplyDeleteoh, dear. I sure hope there are some things about your job that you really really like a lot that make it all worthwhile. Like a great income and benies pkg. Or really fun co-workers. Or frequent snack-room goodies. Something. Glad you've got outside activities to keep you going. Tally Ho!
ReplyDeleteConchi, see my reply to your email notification query in Comments under Just Enough Rope... solution awaits you... :^)
ReplyDeleteConchi, has an armada of alien microbes invaded and taken over your system, disabling you? Are you okay and still with us? Oh, I've got it! You've gone into seclusion to write your second Playette! I'll take a deep breath and hold it until you emerge with masterpiece Posted. Be Well...
ReplyDeleteHa, ha. I think I love you, Dawn. You're the only one who has noticed my absence. Been very busy at work and otherwise, but have been thinking quite a bit about new posts. And, now that you've posted your due diligence, I've given posts more thought with that in mind. Don't want someone to sue me for my $4 in my 401K. I'll be back.....eventually. Bye for now.
